Hey Hey everyone here is another super cool illustration I did for the Challengers Assemble sketch blog, this time the theme was "Future Quest". This theme refers to the new DC comic's book of the same name that showcases the classic Hanna Barbera adventure cartoon characters such as Jonny Quest,Birdman..ect. So for this theme I did the most badass character of the bunch SPACE GHOST he is a character who is a mix of the Lone Ranger,Batman and Flash Gordon all set in some far future space. I loved all of the Hanna Barbera cartoons as kid especially the action adventure ones but for me Space ghost was the coolest (and still is). Space ghost like most of the cartoons at that time did not have an origin story(that is to say you never got an episode that showed you his origin same goes for jonny Quest and the others). The Hanna Barbera cartoons just jumped you right into an episode with just some basic voice over.
The minute I saw Space Ghost I knew he was my guy, He always wore a mask even his teen sidekicks may not have known who he was, He could fly and yet still had a badass spaceship, his secret lair was not just a simple Batcave but rather an entire planet The Ghost Planet. Space Ghost had a wide array of superpowers that were products of technology he could fly, turn invisible (Inviso-power is the best), he could shoot laser beams from his gauntlets usually a heat ray, a cold ray and general power ray. Plus he had a personal force field as well as a personal communicator built into his uniform on his chest. Space Ghost was kinda a lone space cop kinda like a Texas ranger out in the wild space fighting pirates, evil aliens, smugglers and evil rulers trying to invade peaceful worlds. I would tell you to go look at old episodes on u-tube but the animation is limited and was of its time. I wish I could put you in my head to show you the cartoon I remember from when I was a kid then you would see how badass Space Ghost is. Still go check out the new comic Future Quest its got a crossover of all the cool stuff from that era and its not done for jokes or as a goof its done as a strait action adventure comic book. Also Space Ghost was designed by one of the comic Book gods Alex Toth so you know the character is badass!

Hey when you get a chance POP on over to the Challengers Assemble blog.
here is the link. Go to that site it's really cool and I totally encourage everyone to participate in the sketch blog and it's themes they are tons and tons of fun as well as a great creative challenge.
Also let me say this about the Challengers Sketch Blog: All the time I hear or meet other artists on all different development levels seasoned pros to just starting indie creators and art students and they all say how much they love drawing or making art which is great. Yet I don't often see them post their work sure some of the pro's are super busy doing art as a full time job so they don't have a lot of free time to make other art and the stuff they do work on is under contract so they have to wait to show it. I also understand that everyone has very very busy lives with Kids, full time jobs, dating, plus other health issues and it's hard to fit in time to make extra art.

All of those reasons are valid and fair but If your an artist and more than half your social network feeds are picts of you being goofy or the food you eat or have cooked I say this GET OFF YOUR ASS AND MAKE MORE ART!!! yes post images of your daily life but if you tell me how much you love art and love making art then show that on your feeds. Yes your soup looks good and those new shoes sure are great but GOD DAMN show me some of your cool art! I have artist friends the post a sketch a day, they post screen shots of parts of stuff they are working on, or the goofy cartoons they make on their kids lunch bags so it can be done. For me I like to use sketch blogs to enable me to make art for practice as well as something for my internet feeds ( a lot of times I can't show off the stuff I working on as I too have contracts that prevent me from doing that) so I do the blog themes.
I participate in two sketch blogs the first is the Challengers Assemble sketch blog and the second is the Sketch lottery sketch blog both are great. Challengers Assemble deals with comic book and comic book related themes and Sketch lottery focuses on one character picked randomly from a pool of submitted suggestions both are great! Challengers has been my main Sketch blog for several years now and in the past I was part of video game sketch blogs, D&D themed sketch blogs and Horror sketch blogs but as they have come an gone Challengers has remained. As an artist you want people to see your work as well as you want people who can help either give you work or support the work you make, Challengers does just that. The Challengers Sketch blog is run by the folks who own and operate Challengers comics in Chicago so why not get on their radar so when your comic book or art book hits the stands you already have a relationship with one store. Sketch lottery has a huge roster of Illustration pro's who work in the comics, film and video game industry why not start forming good-natured relationships with people you may want to work with or for in the future. Look you don't have to do anything you don't want to do your free to do what ever you like but just don't tell me how much art you make and how much you love to draw SHOW ME!

here are the links to these Blogs go check them out and participate if you can its super fun!
